AT MY ASSIGNMENT

okay it's been 1 1/2 weeks on the job at sunmount in R.I.T 2 and so far Iv'e gotten off to a pretty good start... It's kinda like you gatta change who you are when you walk through the sally port... you have to be Forcefull; Hard Core; and have a clear mind because the consumers will manipulate people just to get what they want (And we all do it ) but they don't know when to stop... and anyone who knows me knows that I am not hard core; ir forcefull in things.
At work they give us these keys and things called Blue Dots. A Blue Dot is a button you push if there is a crisis situation then certain people will have to respond to it... like if there is a take down or if someone runs (There is a fence so it's not too serious just gotta follow him) .... Actually I had to push my blue dot twice so far... The consumers there are behind a fence because of Rape; stealing; and other crimes but since they are unable to comprehend what they done was wrong they are placed behind a fence and going through active treatment. On occasion some do try and siign themselves out and do succeed but most who try to sign themselves out don't succeed..

One thing I hate about the Job is that you have to lie to cover your self.... Like one time one of the consumers was being teased by one of the staff to Run out the door and the consumer said no, but like 3 hours later the consumer ran out the door when no one was looking... (How much do you wanna bet that the reason why the consumer ran was because he was being teased) but what the staff wrote in the IPP 65 notes was not so they put that he was pissed off because he couldn't get a cigarette so he threatened to run... I have to agree to these notes and sign off at the bottom of them or they will know that I am a rat and the next mistake I make the staff will turn me in. so yeah that's a little what I am dealin with so far but it'll get better or I should get used to it... one or the other.

RIT 1

Well today was cool I went and visited people at RIT 1 and every time I go to work by the way I have to go through a Sally Port and a metal detector because it's a secure facility. So that is time consuming and it pays to leave for work about a half hour early... it was fun... I enjoyed it... I realize that I still have a lot to learn about the people (Consumers) though... I wish I could put up pictures but I cannot take pictures in a secure facility.

Visiting the CIT LIT and RIT

Day four, today my Aunt took us on a tour to visit the CIT LIT and the RIT... (All these places are very secure areas where you have to go through a metal detector before you go into work.) the CIT is the Most Secure area... . . CIT stands for (Center for Intensive Treatment) That is where I want to work... RIT they say is the least secure. RIT stands for (Regional Intensive Treatment) LIT is the main building located in the same building that you see in the picture and I always forget what LIT stands for. my aunt said by the time all the overtime is figured in that you have to take it will all come up to about 60,000$ per year...
Throughout the day I was looking at the Consumers rooms in the CIT and it seems like Sunmount really cares for their needs and wants even though they are criminals.. Some Consumers have huge Stereos and Big Screen TV's and DVD players... Some of the consumers get paid the same amount as the staff.. which is kind of neat how they don't single them out like that..
Walking down the hall way from where I will share an office with someone is like 15 minutes from the door to the parking lot.. So by the time you get to your car on your lunch break it will be time to go back to the office...
So I just go to the cafeteria!!! LOL the cafeteria food is actually really good..

The First Day

Today was the first day on the job at Sunmount DDSO... It was very exciting. My aunt was the trainer for DDSCTA's that's what I am A Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide. Then there are the DA's which are obviously the Developmental Aides... I am A grade 10 at Sunmount...

It was funny because when I walked into the class room where my aunt was training she had written on the board "Betty is your FAVORITE TEACHER!!" LOL She was picking on me the whole half hour LOL . She made it fun though.

This is a Picture of the building in which I work in called Sunmount D.D.S.O . For those of you who do not know what this is all about D.D.S. O Stands for Developmental Disabilities Services Office... an OMRDD.
This institution has houses in the community which take care of people who are able and willing to live out in the community.. the people who work in these houses are called DA's Developmental Aides...
Behind the Fence which is this building has all the people who aren't able to live out in the community... and who are criminally charged at some point in their lives, some people in this building have come from prisons, Jails, or mental health institutions
The staff that work behind the fence are called DDSCTA's Which for short we say Discata Which means Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide... Eventually with the right schooling I will be able to work my way from a grade 10 to a grade 28 where instead of making 30,000$ per year I will be making 45-60,000$ per year..

The LAST day

LOL today was the last day of work at North Star in Saranac Lake... at Day Treatment... Today I turned in the key to the office.. The state was here and they were checking things out for corrections. My Co workers made me a cake LOL and one of the clients thought it was my Birthday so she started singing happy birthday to me and then pretty soon all the other clients were singing happy birthday to me LOL... It was funny... I loved it.... Chocolate cake with Vanilla Frosting... MMMM My favorire and it was in the shape of a horse shoe for good luck in my new Job. I was a nice fast good day.... Now I get to look forward to 5 weeks of classes 8am -4:30pm at Sunmount DDSO in the Personell office for staff training and development.. LOL .. Can't wait..
Tomorrow I will be writting about my first day of work.

Starting a New Job

Ok after my restaurant job I started working at an OMRDD Called North Star Industries in Saranac Lake, NY. While I was there I have been doing assistant Social work duties And Day Treatment Aid Work... I have been working in this Industry for about 4 1/2 Months now I found that through my experience working with People with mental disabilities is something that I want to do. 3 months before I started working at North Star Industries, I applied to work at Sunmount DDSO here in Tupper Lake, Ny... Which is an Developmental Disabilities Service Office.. When I filed the Application they said it may take up to six months for them to contact me... That was too long so I had applied for North Star Industries in Saranac Lake which is a private Institution for mentally disabled people. 3 months after I have this Job I receive a letter in the mail stating for me to come in for an interview from Sunmount DDSO...(Sunmount DDSO is state Organized)...so I made an appointment, had the interview, took the civil service test, took my finger prints, then had a physical and got hired... The civil service test was long... I wouldn't say hard... or anything anyone would have to study for... if your atleast half way normal anyone would pass it. there are two parts to the test.. Phsyc test where there are only true or false questions and a physical fitness test where you have to perform certain tasks in a certain amount of time. So my last day at North Star Industries is on 4/25/07 . can't wait to start making more money I am going to be making double the amount I am making now... when I start on 4/26/07 for Sunmount I will be taking classes for 5 weeks then on the 6th week I will receive my first paycheck... they hold 2 paychecks back for some reason. Don't know why... I guess it's a state thing.. There was a fire drill at North Star today we had a little problem with one of the clients because as she was being lifted in electric hoyer EZ Lift... The drill went off... and the HAB CORD is asking me what I think she should do... because she wants to get the client out ASAP... I said well you only can do what you can do she has to be in her wheel chair when she is brought out in a fire drill... and she agreed. I will keep you posted on how things go within the next couple of days .
